New England Institute of Technology Logo

New England Institute of Technology has announced that they will be the Affiliate Partner for the Rhode Island’s FIRST Tech Challenge. It’s the 14th year for this event. It was founded by Segway inventor Dean Kamen in 1989. FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, and was founded primarily for students appreciation of science and technology using robotics. Teams have coaches and mentors,

Students from the following schools will be competing:
• Bishop Hendricken High School
• Mt. Hope High School
• North Kingstown High School
• Prout School
• William M. Davies Career and Technical High School
• Slater Middle School
• Charles E. Shea High School
• Pilgrim High School
• Chariho Area Career and Technical Center
• Barrington High School
• Met School – Unity Campus
• Wilbur McMahon School
• Mt. Pleasant High School
• Narragansett High School
• Cumberland High School
• The College Crusade of Rhode Island

Robotic After School Program students from these schools will also be competing
• East Providence,
• Harrisville
• Westerly
• Scituate/Foster

The students who participate in the FIRST program have access to over ten million dollars in college scholarships.

This event will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 and will open with a ceremony at 10:45 am. Robot viewing will be from 11-12:30 am and 1:15 to 4:00 pm at the Center for Automotive Technology on the NEIT Campus at 101 Access Road in Warwick Rhode Island.
